LESSON STRUCTURE
Each MSL session covers several key components and introduces new skills in a sequential order. Concepts, sounds, language patterns/rules and higher level skill-building are all organised ahead of time.
Multisensory Structured Language instruction follows a specific structure, with each lesson following the same format:
-
Sound drill: students are shown a grapheme (symbol) and asked for the phoneme (sound)
-
Review of previously taught concept
-
Introducing a new concept or rule
-
Practice it at the sound, word, and sentence level
-
Work on specific activities: Phonemic Awareness, spelling, (hand)writing, and written expression
-
Ongoing diagnostic assessment

Current research has demonstrated the value of explicit, structured language teaching for all students, especially those with Dyslexia and Developmental Language Disorder.
