A Structured Literacy approach:

  • Benefits ALL children
  • Is essential for dyslexic students

Structured Literacy Instruction is:

  • Evidence-aligned
  • Explicit, systematic, sequential
  • Diagnostic
  • Cognitively and emotionally sound

WHAT ARE THE FIVE KEYS TO READING?

  1. Phonemic Awareness: the ability to identify and manipulate the distinct individual sounds in spoken words
  2. Phonics: the ability to decode words using knowledge of letter-sound relationships
  3. Fluency: reading with speed and accuracy
  4. Vocabulary: knowing the meaning of a wide variety of words and the structure of written language
  5. Comprehension: understanding the meaning and intent of the text

ISABELLE’S MSL JOURNEY

A McGill graduate with an extensive background in linguistics and language teaching, Isabelle Duquennois has been praised for instilling confidence in her students and for dramatically improving their academic skills.
A dual qualification in Multisensory Structured Language and Orton-Gillingham obtained through IMSLE and Yoshimoto OG has equipped Isabelle with robust specialised training and the expert level knowledge of language that is essential to teach reading and writing. Her comprehensive approach can be best described as explicit, systematic, and sequential teaching of all levels of language.
Through her advocacy work (Structured Literacy Alliance, Dyslexia Victoria Support, and Code Read Network), Isabelle has been promoting evidence-aligned practice and regularly attends progressional development events, workshops, and webinars. She feels privileged to have been mentored by top experts and is thrilled to have contributed to the editing of Lyn Stone’s acclaimed book ‘Reading For Life’.
